On 11th March 2020, COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.

On 23rd March 2020, PM Boris Johnson declared a UK national lockdown across the UK, with people only allowed out for limited essential reasons.

Throughout this time many people have been recognised as key workers and, due to the nature of their work, have put themselves and their families at great risk whilst working to keep our country running.

I believe that all key workers deserve national recognition for the hard work and sacrifices they have made, and that have been so visible to the public throughout the lockdown period.

The nation has already shown great unity in applauding our NHS staff and all key workers weekly every Thursday at 8:00pm, starting on 26th March 2020.

I propose that 26th March is recognised by the UK Parliament as an annual day to celebrate the work that all key workers of this nation do and the sacrifices they have made during this pandemic.  I further propose that, on that day, one minute's silence is held for all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.  This national day should be in a similar vein to Armed Forces Day with a national event being hosted by one city/town and smaller local events being held across the country.

All key workers deserve recognition.
