An end to bias and anti-Labour bias in the British Press
This petition had 1,293 supporters
On June 7th 2017, the majority of the print media in Britain launched attacks on the Labour Party that bring into question the very freedom of our press. Desperate slurs have been made against Jeremy Corbyn, Diane Abbott and John McDonnell which are not only misrepresentative and untrue, but also serve to diminish the memory of Jo Cox MP who was murdered by a neo-Nazi terrorist only last year. It is the belief of the signatories of this petition that slurring the aforementioned Labour Party members in this way sets a dangerous precedent and could open those involved up to security risks or worse. It also causes us to ask fundamental questions about the bias within the British media, if they would go so far as to stop Jeremy Corbyn from winning.
It is therefore vital that an independent commission is established after the election in order to uncover any vested corporate interests within the media that could be influencing the news output. It is the belief of the signatories of this petition that corporate bias has been fully visible throughout this election, and to let these interests dictate the dissemination of information any further would be a direct threat to democracy in the U.K. It is also our belief that laws regarding what is printed during the course of a General Election have to be reviewed in order to provide voters with clarity and a fair choice based on policy and not soundbites.
