Abolish the minimum income for sponsorship of foreign spouses
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
In order for a UK citizen to sponsor a none EEA spouse they must earn £18600 per annum. This discriminates against working class people on lower incomes. The income threshold is even higher for couples with children who are not British citizens, rising to £22,400 for a couple with a first child and then an additional £2,400 for each additional child leading to approximately 15000 children growing up in single parent homes and tearing families apart. Also leaving British citizens who are married to a non EEA spouse a choice of either separation from their husband and wife or being forced to leave the country.
The rule doesn't take into account the potential earnings of the foreign spouse so even if the spouse is highly qualified with great potential earnings in the UK, the sponsor still must earn £18600 a year.
It is time for this despicable rule to be changed.
A price cannot be put on family life.
Help put pressure on the government to change this heartless rule.
