People who can show proof of rent for 5 years or more should be given access to 100% mortgages. It is most likely that renters are paying more than a mortgage payment. With rent payments so high may people struggle to save alongside their payments. Even with the government changing to 5% mortgages it still doesn’t help renters to get on the property ladder or own their own home. 
Most renters can afford a mortgage payment but not a deposit. If renters can prove they haven’t missed a payment and can afford it then they should be given the opportunity to get a mortgage.
