I'm signing this petition because I work as a counsellor with trans people and know only too well how much hatred and bigotry they have to contend with. I'm also in the UK National Union of Journalists, and am sickened by the media coverage of trans people.

Trans people are just people - they deserve to be able to live their lives without fear of being murdered just for who they are.

Please join with a growing number of people working together to support and promote petitions for equality. Like this page, sign petitions on it, and make this your status. Working together we can help all petitions reach their goal and help people to see some of the disgraceful inequalities that exist, hopefully building our support base. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Petitions-Promoting-Equality/131324473639202

Last time I checked, it's not actually 1200 AD any more. So we try not to treat dwarf or thalidomide kids as a public freakshow, how the fuck is this any different?

The press should always strive towards empathy and respect; too many times it is
cause or symptom rather than balm for the suffering.

because everyone should be able to be accepted for who they are - without ridicule in our purile press that panders to society's lowest common denominator

Because everyone should have the right to be who they are and be accepted (assuming they are not committing violent or abusive acts towards others).
