Jessica Green started this petition to UK Government

There is no clear law that states a school has to have a specific plan in place for young people’s protection and support from peer-on-peer sexual harassment. Currently, schools are only ‘suggested’ to provide specific guidelines in how they will support their pupils and whether this will be reflective of the school environment that they work within.

Current government legislation regarding peer-on-peer sexual harassment recognises that:

’Sexual harassment creates an atmosphere that, if not challenged, can normalise inappropriate behaviours and provide an environment that may lead to sexual violence’ however there is no legal requirement for schools to outline their policy and response to allegations of this.

This petition calls on government to recognise that each individual school must provide clear and specific policies about what they recognise as sexual harassment, the behaviours that they will not tolerate, the support in place for those who face it and the consequences for perpetrators.
