Save Devon House for use as genuinely affordable housing in Bristol.

Bristol desperately needs affordable housing. We call on the Government authorities to save Devon House for use as genuinely affordable housing.
A large government owned building in Easton called Devon House is being auctioned on 28th February and is likely to get snapped up by private developers for expensive housing or offices. This is public property, which is ultimately owned by us, the taxpayers.
Bristol needs more affordable housing - homes where people pay a 'living rent' . Prices in Easton have risen by nearly 25% in a single year according to recent statistics. Local people are being priced out - they need homes they can afford, not expensive flats or offices.
Easton is a community, not an investment opportunity. Property owners, public servants and local residents all have a duty to look after and ensure the best use of land and buildings in our communities, not just to treat them as assets and commodities.
Local people should have a real say about land and property developments. Big developers are routinely failing to build enough affordable housing. People are fed up with their failure to listen to local views and the lack of accountability of developers. These are our communities, not theirs.
The government say they want affordable houses, but are still going to sell this building to the highest bidder. The auction is getting close, but it's not too late to make sure that this building is used for homes that local people can afford.
ACORN member Steve has flagged this and we're backing him in calling on the Government authorities to safeguard Devon House for genuinely affordable or social housing, that brings a benefit to the wider community.
