I had to register my mum’s death this week. She died from COVID-19 complications. 

I will need several certified copies of her death certificate in order to put her affairs in order. They are £11 each no mater how many you need. 

I think this is excessive as most families will need at least 4 or 5 copies.  The death of a loved one is painful and expensive as it is without the government charging £11 per certificate! 

I understand that the fees are similar for birth and marriage certificates. And would like to see reductions in those fees as well.  

Surely the cost of additional copies of these certificates cannot be the same as the first one. Once the process of creating a copy is done, doing additional ones at the same time must be considerably cheaper.  

I propose a significantly reduced fee of for example £5 for the first certificate and £1 for additional certificates. 

This would reduce the financial burden on families, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic where significantly more deaths are occurring and family finance are under strain.
