Why this petition matters

The price of fuel in the space of 3 years has risen over 40% with no justifiable reason. All things considered with the current war, russia only contributes 4% of the UKs fuel import. During the period of covid lockdowns the price rose for no apparent reason as countries would have an overflow of fuel due to vehicles being left in drives because of self isolation.

If the UK government is expecting us to switch to electric, I’ve got 2 reasons not to:

1- the electricity grid is not designed to sustain electric charge points in at least 50% of homes with 1 electric vehicle per home.

2- the cost to purchase an electric vehicle is not favourable to the population of the UK and is only affordable to the higher class or those who have good credit score to be accepted to finance a vehicle

When we also take into consideration the young people who are the future of this nation, how can you the government expect them to afford an electric vehicle let alone run a fossil fuel vehicle with the current prices. You’re not helping the people of this country, you’re driving us into the ground like dirt not to be given a care for.

This ends now, people can’t afford to go out and we can’t be expected to use public transport due to it not being accessible in rural areas of the country. Ireland can make a change of 15-20 cents. Why can’t you?
