As a woman, if you plan and hope to have a family one day, it is important that you consider your career and the company you work for in order to make the most of your maternity leave and ensure you are comfortable during this time. As a result, many women will stay in jobs because of a good maternity package, this can stunt progression. If you wish to move jobs and hope to start a family a little way down the line, this can make a big impact on where you choose to go next in your career. This can restrict many women in the choices they make for their future. During interviews, it doesn't feel like a prudent choice to ask a prospective employer about their maternity policy or package as there is a valid fear this might impact on an offer being made, despite there being laws around this. As a result, it should be made a legal requirement for all companies to advertise, in detail, about their maternity policies either on their website or alongside a job advertisement. This would be an effective step in moving towards a more equal playing field within the realms of work.
