Julia Burdet started this petition to UK Government and

Boris Johnson has announced that (barring a reversal of the decision on 12th July) from the 19th July almost all legal requirements regarding Covid19 will be removed, including the wearing of masks and social distancing. By their own admission, this action will lead to hundreds of thousands of unnecessary cases, and the subsequent hospitalisations and deaths, each one a tragedy for someone.

After over a year of sacrifices, we are being thrown to the wolves. Mask wearing and social distancing protect those who are most vulnerable - young and old - who can't be protected by vaccines, for many reasons, but also everyone else, even without evident health issues. It's not possible for anyone to protect themselves except by totally shielding, which is impossible for most and unfair for the rest. Those who have to work in public facing roles will be put at direct constant risk.

Though they have helped to reduce hospitalisations and deaths, vaccines can't fully protect everyone and do not stop transmission. And they cannot protect from long Covid, which can be suffered by people of any age or state of health. Both the immediate cases and the long term health issues will continue to cause massive extra strain on the NHS.

Please sign to show the government the strength of feeling against this dangerous, reckless - and for many, terrifying - experiment with our health. Help persuade the government that we are not prepared to let our short and long term health be the pawns in a game of herd immunity Russian Roulette driven only by misguided ideology.
