Extend postgraduate loans to all postgraduate qualifications

Since the age of 10, I have wanted to become a lawyer. However, History has always been another love of mine, and so I decided to study it at the undergraduate level. As my degree draws to a close, I am considering studying the Graduate Diploma in Law next year. However, the £10,000 postgraduate loan provided by the government does not cover the GDL, and so, as I am not eligible for the majority of scholarships, I will have to source the funds elsewhere.
I believe that it is incredibly unfair that bright and capable students should be dissuaded by the potential financial implications and hardship caused by a postgraduate qualification. With high levels of graduate unemployment, many will decide to undertake further qualifications once they graduate. However, not all of us want to do a Masters' degree and, therefore, not all of us are eligible to apply for the postgraduate loan. Private loans include misleading terms and conditions, higher interest rates and some even ask that you pay them back whilst you are still studying.
I am petitioning the UK Government to extend postgraduate loans to all postgraduate qualifications and degrees. No one should be hindered by financial obstacles. Higher education must be more accessible to those of us who cannot fund our studies.
