EXEMPT NHS KEY WORKERS FROM OVERSEAS HAVING TO PAY THE NHS HEALTHCARE SURCHARGE.
In the recent Budget in the UK, the chancellor announced an increase in the Immigration health surcharge from £400 a person to £624 to be introduced this November 2020. Whilst I do believe that it is right for visitors and workers from overseas to be paying some form of contribution to the NHS and have no problem with, what I strongly object too as our healthcare professionals and key workers having to pay such a charge.
On the one hand, you have many doctors and nurses from other countries the UK who we desperately need and appreciate, looking after our elderly and sick, even more so now in the wake of the current healthcare crisis of COVID19, then on the other hand, if and when they become sick, they have to pay for the privilege of NHS care that they give with such care, often putting their own health at risk in the process.
Today, I am calling for the UK government to consider exempting key NHS and public service workers from such a charge.
The issue is that right now, a lot of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals from abroad are considering leaving the UK as it costs vast sums of money just to be with their families here, which I believe is the least we can help them achieve. If not, we will loose these workers to other countries that don’t have such charges.
