During the coronavirus lockdown Garden Centres and nurseries are not allowed to open to the public yet DIY and home stores are allowed. Many people enjoy gardening as a past time, keeping people fit and mentally fit which is so important during the enforced lock down.

I see no logical reason why a DIY store is exempt and garden centres are not. Many DIY stores have a dedicated garden department selling  plants and have been allowed to continue selling plants, yet a garden centre which only has this as the mainstay of their business is not allowed. Many of the garden centres and nurseries are small independent businesses and will suffer serious financial difficulty and may not be able to reopen after the lockdown is lifted.  Which means many gardening enthusiasts will have no choice of where to go to buy plants other then supermarkets and DIY stores who are not particularly knowledgeable about the plants they sell as they buy them in bulk and unlike small garden centres can take the financial loss of unsold plants. I think there would be a great benefit in keeping garden centres open for the physical and mental health of a huge amount of the population.
