Schools in the UK are currently overcrowded, unsanitary breeding grounds for viruses such as the novel coronavius. There aren't enough facilities in schools to wash hands and those that are available are usually filthy or locked up due to graffiti.

In my, and many others, opinion (demonstrated by #closetheschoolsuknow trending on Twitter ) schools should be temporarily closed to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. Work can be completed on online programs while the students stay at home for a couple of weeks. Plus, if any of the teachers get sick, they won't have to make contact with hundreds of students a day if pupils complete work at home.

It is clear that myself and many others live at home with vulnerable people who could become seriously ill or even lose their lives if we come home from school with the coronavirus. I am aware that usually it doesn't affect healthy children as much as it affects elderly people or those with underlying health issues and may only appear as a mild flu but if one of those healthy children come into contact with a potentially vulnerable person then it is a completely different story. In conclusion I think that the government should at least provide adequate hygiene facilities and reduce overcrowding in schools but preferably shut schools for a length of time. Many other countries who have a fraction of the amount of cases that we have are already taking measures to stop the spread of the virus while we are singing happy birthday whilst washing our hands. At the rate we are acting, we might not be able to stop it before millions of people are infected, thousands dead and the NHS overwhelmed.
