Cheryl Carey started this petition to UK Government and Parliament

Fireworks were first intended to celebrate Guy Fawks night but since the Millennium, they have become popular for seeing in the New Year, birthday parties, weddings and now Halloween.

The problem now is that people are obtaining fireworks and using them from Halloween to New Year every year. Animals are suffering from the constant and always 'unexpected' bombardment terrorising them.  Not just pets in their home, but rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs that are all kept in people's homes and gardens. Then there are wild animals, horses, farm animals and birds. Animals go into a fright or flight behaviour because they don't understand where the noise is coming from. Horses panic, kicking stable doors and seriously injure themselves. Dogs escape and take flight and get injured, wild animals panic and become trapped.

People with mental health conditions, such as autism, schizophrenia, asperger's syndrome, dementia and PTSD are all categories that can be seriously disturbed and scared witless at the expense of people 'having fun". A lot of our homeless people living on streets are ex-servicemen suffering from PTSD, imagine how they feel.

We can still have fun at school PTA displays, organised events and other celebrations. We are asking for all fireworks to be removed from sale in local corner shops, supermarkets and from general public sale. For events to be regulated by licence from local authorities.

It is not our intention to stop fireworks altogether, but to regulate and have some kind of control over who is allowed to have them and where. It is the lack of warning and the unexpected fireworks that cause most of the problems, the pranksters letting them off in daylight for fun,  while animals are around and the vulnerable are not pre-prepared.

I have an autistic son who's life is made hell during the darker months, I have a dog who is terrified and almost convulses at the slightest loud noise because fireworks have terrified him at some point over the winter season.

We need 10,000 signatures to get parliament to consider our application to change the Law on fireworks. Please help by signing this petition.
