Edward Gregory started this petition to UK Government and

On the 20/03/2020 the government asked 50,000 nurses to come out of retirement to help with the Covid-19 pandemic.

A standard band 5 NHS nurse has a starting salary of a little over £24,000, with Healthcare Assistants on little more than minimum wage.

To ask 50,000 nurses to come back on that wage would equate to the NHS paying out over £1200Million.

If there is that much money free to pay for nurses to come out of retirement, then why haven’t frontline staff been offered a pay rise during this time? Failing a pay rise - NHS staff at this time should be granted TAX FREE pay.

The government have not offered NHS staff any pay rise, danger pay, tax free salaries, or pay incentives whilst dealing with this panic.

We are working harder and longer hours, whilst simultaneously putting our own health on the line.

Yes it’s our job, but at the best of times a £24,000 salary for a staff nurse is not enough, so it most definitely is not enough now!

It’s alright recognising that NHS staff are doing a fantastic job, but pay rises and incentives need to happen! And they are needed NOW!

This pay change should include frontline Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics, Healthcare Assistants, 111 Staff, Domestic Staff, Catering Staff, Lab Staff - and ALL OTHER STAFF MEMBERS that are now working harder to help squash Covid-19!
