My friends Sam and Grace had their wedding ceremony cancelled in March at the very start of lockdown. They live apart because as Christians they believe in getting married before you live together. Many couples have had their lives-together turned upside down, and not just those who follow traditional values. Making solemn promises of commitment on what millions remember as the happiest day of their lives is a profound human experience.

We want to petition the UK government to allow weddings with just 5 people in attendance - the couple, two witnesses, and the officiant. This can be done easily within current social distancing regulations. Celebrations and honeymoons obviously can not be a part of this, and these will need to wait for quite some time.

If such mini-weddings are allowed as part of the current easing of lockdown, thousands of couples will be able to get on with building their lives and their futures together.
