A victim is a victim and a crime is a crime regardless of death.
A victim is a victim and a crime is a crime regardless of death.
My mum died earlier this year and on her death it was discovered that her bank account had systematically been drained of all her money. Mum had dementia and was unable to give consent to this. In the last year she was in hospital more than she was home and withdrawals were still being made.
The bank gave us access to her accounts and purchases and usage on her account, loans taken out in her name amounted to £70,000 over the years when her health was declining. . The banks, catalogues etc were very helpful but on going to the police we were told as she was dead there was no victim therefore no crime. These criminals were able to get away Scott free with no consequences.
On talking to other people this is quite common . Because the majority of these types of crimes are discovered after a person's death .
I would like the law to be changed so that the victims are given a voice after death and these criminals can go before a jury of there peers who can then decide . This would act as both a deterant and give a strong message, as just now these criminals know nothing will be done.
