The conditions ex-convicts are released from prison into are often extreme and unfair, and place them in situations where homelessness and turning back to crime feel like their only options due to the lack of support and the disadvantages they face.

Such unfair disadvantages include, but are not limited to:

 - £46-£76 release grant, which is rarely enough to last long enough before the individual is able to find a means to receive income.

- Released prisoners often do not have accommodation, jobs, bank accounts or legal IDs ready after release, leading to huge barriers and challenges to their fresh start.

- People released from prison will receive increased stigma due to their criminal record, leading to a much harder time finding work, accommodation and support, as well as a common unfair bias from the public of "once a criminal, always a criminal."

- A probation service often focussed more on surveillance rather than support.

Tackling issues like these and striving for change can help ex-convicts be viewed more like people, and would allow them a fairer start in life and a real second chance, these are people who have served their sentences, and the pressures and situations they face coming out of prison is essentially unfair punishment they no longer deserve, and should be seen as a breach of human rights.

Allowing those released from prison a fairer chance will also help reduce reoffending and homelessness rates, further improving communities and the lives of all people across the UK.
