UK Athletics have decided not to support BUCS in sending a team to the 2013 World University Games. This means that although BUCS will be sending a team to the games, Athletics will not be included.
Athletes at University should be given the opportunity to represent their country if they achieve the required standards. Whilst there are other competitions that provide opportunities for athletes to compte for Great Britain we believe that the World University Games should be another opportunity for Athletes to represent Great Britain. In addition this competition provides athletes who are ineligible to compete in either the U20 or U23 competitions experience of an international sports event.
- UK Athletics
I strongly urge UK Athletics to reconsider their decision to not support a team to attend the World University Games. The World University Games will provide an opportunity for athletes to represent Great Britain in a large international competition if they are not eligible to compete in the U20 or U23 team. BUCS will have an HQ team at the games as other sports will be present and I feel UKA should not prevent an Athletics team being sent to represent the country.
