Environmental Justice Association started this petition to UHCL administration

Less than 1% of the Gulf Coast Prairie originally in Texas and Louisiana remains to this day. Many animals and plants have gone extinct while many more are endangered. Biodiversity grows less and less by each day.

We are currently in the midst of the 6th mass extinction event of the Earth. Although we have the tools and potential to make a difference, we sit idly by. Now is the time to come together as a community at UHCL, use the different tools and capabilities we have together effectively, and play a part in the harmonic solution.

How can UHCL do this? We must grow the green infrastructure of our campus and involve the campus community. By installing a pocket prairie pollinator garden on campus, not only will this bring back part of Texas's departing history, the campus community will invest in native Texas plants, increase biodiversity, install a beautiful, dynamic sight for passersby, provide a place of respite and relaxation, and most importantly- serve as a source of education for all who visit.

The pocket prairie pollinator garden be low maintenance, resilient, and a very beautiful sight on campus, it will serve as a message that UHCL cares about protecting its home and the wellbeing of its community. Every student, faculty, and community member that signs this petition pledges to protect and grow the invaluable green infrastructure of our UHCL campus. Investing in green infrastructure, such as a pocket prairie, shows UHCL's stance to be the one university that does what's right in a world where everything seems to be going wrong. UHCL is loud and proud to be a part of the path to treating the Earth with more care.”
