Bridging The Management Gap In The Telecom Sector

In recent years, the aggressive expansion of telecommunication networks to remote geographical locations has brought in huge rural investments and unleashed untapped economic energies and market forces. However, skilled management professionals are still in short supply in the Telecom sector. “There is a dire need to create a strong workforce with sound technical knowledge combined with good management skills. While there are a lot many colleges and institutes in the country that offer degree and diploma courses in telecom engineering/technology, a precious few have thought of offering the much-needed education incorporating management/business principles,” says Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director of WeSchool (Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Research and Development).
To fulfil the gap between the demand for trained personnel and the existing pool of talent in the Telecom industry, in the year 2012, WeSchool developed two courses in a joint venture with MTNL’s Center for Excellence in Telecom Technology & Management (CETTM).
WeSchool’s Post Graduate Program in Telecom Management (PGPTM) and Certificate Course in Telecom Marketing & Management (CTMM) last for 11 months and 3 months, respectively. After the completion of their course, Welingkar ites are provided placement assistance by the top B-School.
“With design thinking, creativity and innovation at the core, WeSchool’s Telecom Management courses are autonomous in nature. The lectures on Telecom topics are given at the state-of-the-art CETTM Training Center, and management lectures are conducted at the WeSchool campus,” informs Dr. Uday Salunkhe.
