We the under-signed are calling for an immediate cessation to all drop-ins and lesson observations. We believe to carry out drop-ins/lesson observations during the pandemic shows how out of touch management is with teaching staff. Putting performance management before the well-being of staff and students serves no-one.
Sandwell has one of the highest infection rates not only in the UK but in Europe. The number of deaths in Sandwell and surrounding areas is amongst the highest in the UK. Staff and students have suffered or are suffering from Covid-19 and its after effects. A number of staff and students have lost close family members. The mental health of staff and students has been adversely affected. People in all communities have much to keep them awake at night without being performance managed.
We believe management should not be carrying out any drop-ins/observations as this is causing great stress and anxiety. We believe the drop-ins are observations and a change of name has done little to alleviate the fear we have. We feel enough is enough and are calling for a halt to all drop-ins/observations and for management to support staff and students more during these difficult times.
