This quarter at UCSC has been one for the record books. We have lost all face to face instruction, pushed to leave the safety of our school and go home to situations not conducive of learning. We watched our family members fight Covid 19, and we said goodbye to family members due to Covid 19. Just when we were getting our lives back. Another black man was killed by police violence, and the country erupted! As a black student, I am not in the mental/emotional mindspace to do well. There are so many of us who have lost a family member to police violence, so many of us are currently being gassed for protesting or know someone who is. Some of us are living in a city on fire. Yet our professors think we are at an advantage because our exam is online. This is not true or Ok. The response to our please for optional finals is that we can have an Incomplete. For each incomplete the school profits $10. This is no different than war-profiteering. Please sign this petition to try to change the minds of those in charge!
