Parking situations have been and will most likely continue to be a common stress factor for students at UCSB. This past year, with students coming back to campus for in-person classes, a common stress that is shared among numerous students had to do with parking. With the university trying to bounce back into in-person functions after a year long hiatus, it has led to the over-enrollment in students and housing crisis. Currently, many students have been left with no other option than to live in their cars or differ from the university they had been longing for. In addition, Isla Vista is already such a small town that the lack of parking causes way more hardship than the "hardship" it would cause if we could just make Lot 22 free for students residing in Isla Vista. Doing this one act for the Isla Vista community and UCSB students can improve attendance rates and campus engagement. Students who are forced to live in their cars will have one less burden taken off their shoulders and more students will have the luxury to come onto campus. It would also prevent fights over parking spots.
