Deyana Sarkis started this petition to UCS

On May 4th, UCS sent out an email to parents and students of class of 2020, discussing the events of graduation and how they will play out. In this, the email stated that IF they are unable to hold a live ceremony in June, they will be holding a “virtual” ceremony instead. Not only am I speaking for myself when I say that this was terrible news to receive, but I know that my fellow classmates and parents in the UCS community feel saddened by this news. Many students have already communicated with me that they’d rather just have the ceremony postponed to whenever would be the safest. Though we are thankful that UCS thought to at least provide us with the virtual ceremony, it could never match the feeling of being together with our classmates, in front of our families, walking up the stage to receive our diplomas. The feeling of making ourselves and our parents/guardians proud after all of our years of hard work will not be provided through a virtual ceremony. Students are discouraged at just the thought of having to get ready to only sit in front of a computer, and angered that they paid money for caps & gowns just to take pictures in them rather than having the real thing.

We are fully aware that the virus is something serious and is affecting millions around the world, and it is saddening to hear and i truly empathize with everyone that this has affected in different ways. However, this is how it is affecting mine, and my classmates lives. The virtual ceremony for class of 2020 should be the last resort, we feel that UCS should atleast attempt to postpone rather than just going straight to a virtual ceremony.

I hope that UCS will reconsider their decision to hold a virtual ceremony if the live ceremony can not go through in the first week of June, please postpone it to a later time in the year.
