Nathan Boklage started this petition to UCR Design and Construction Department and

UCR admin are planning on chopping down two oak trees that are over 50 years old in the green spaces next to the Student Services building for a new building project. This is ridiculous, as the trees are not only part of the beauty and history of our campus, they are effective climate regulators. We should NOT be chopping down large mature trees. The admin definitely could plan in a way that would save the trees, but they are not. We are going to change that. The purpose of this petition is to organize a protest to save our trees! This space is one of the few conservation of nature around the campus where students can relax and enjoy the scenery. Removing these trees would also effect several clubs on campus since they hold meetings in this area. This decision will turn a usually peaceful setting into a noisy, disruptive environment forcing students to find a different place to find peace and silence. First, the trees in front of the baseball field were removed, now they are removing the trees in front of the Humanities building, what's next the R'garden?
