Hazardous work conditions

The current air condition for Goleta rated as “very unhealthy” by the Santa Barbara Air Pollution Control District and all other schools in the Santa Barbara area are closed including the Goleta and Santa Barbara Unified school districts and the Santa Barbara Community College District. Although UCSB staff have received information regarding the Thomas Fire, staff on campus still have concerns about its potential effect, both immediate and long term, regarding our health and wellness.
We the undersigned staff call on the UCSB administration to:
1. Call on staff that need to be exposed on a voluntary basis, and not force all staff to hazardous and very dangerous air quality.
2. UCSB administration should match responses given by other organizations (I.e. Santa Barbara school district), and the response should be applied to ALL in danger not just students.
3. UCSB staff who normally work outdoors should be given indoor responsibility until air quality is no longer hazardous.
The safety and well being of everyone on campus is a priority among our fellow staff members, let’s make sure we make ourselves a priority to all UC administrators.
