Police attacking peaceful protest organizers is not acceptable.

Because the stats don't lie. In SoCal, BIPOC people are 8 times as likely to be murdered by the police (Black Americans are 6 times as likely to be fatally shot by officers in LA County, and Latinx Americans are 10 times as likely to be fatally shot by officers). We need to hold the police accountable for every infringement they take against the health of our communities. Period. We can't wait for them to murder another human being before we demand responsibility.

I am signing as a 2018 UCSB alumna who once saw UCPD literally tackle a student to the ground for skateboarding. Students should not be subject to such excessive force by UCPD ever, let alone while organizing for a living wage for the indispensable work they do to make the UC system possible. Your responsibility is to protect us -- it should NOT take students this much to ask administrators for the bare minimum.

As a college student no one should have to worry about the police coming for them. A college campus should be a safe space for all students and staff.

As an alum of UCI, I am OUTRAGED that this officer is being protected by the administration. This act of racism puts all students and faculty of color at risk. Something must be done, immediately.
