Children's books in university libraries allow older readers to reread books from their childhood but also provide necessary reading for students of children's literature. A UC Berkeley children's library would also be a natural partner in planning a children's or teen book fair.
As a children's book author, I am a proponent of keeping this library open because there are times when the needs of the few should outweigh the needs of the many. There are patrons who access the books housed in this library and, with increased awareness, this library's use can grow. Please keep it open.
Children's books are a haven for us to return to as adults. They are also good avenues for studying what we hold important as society evolves. I took an on campus class back in the 80s and loved the varied libraries on campus, it would be a shame to lose this unique one.
