It has been brought to our attention that the UC Berkeley Career Center is hosting ICE at a campus career fair this Thursday, March 11th. It is not acceptable for UC Berkeley to claim it protects its undocumented student population and recruit students to begin careers with ICE. Every Berkeley student deserves to feel safe and respected, and inviting ICE to engage students is not only inconsistent with UC Berkeley’s purported principles of inclusion but also creates a climate of fear and confusion. 

In the words of the university, “We remain committed to making sure Berkeley’s undocumented community experiences our university as a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive space.” -Chancellor Christ and Oscar Dubón Jr. 

Inviting ICE to a campus career fair does not, by any means, create a “welcoming, supportive, and inclusive space” for our undocumented community. Please join us in reminding UC Berkeley of its commitment.
