Ubers can be a great resource in finding a safe way home or a convenient commute from place to place. However, there is a detail in the cancellation policy that may seem minute, but can end up financially quite substantial. In the event of waiting on an Uber driver for 2 or more minutes and then deciding to cancel, customers are charged a cancellation fee of $5. But what if the driver was expected to arrive in 6 minutes and it's been 10, and they've yet to make any progress? What if they are heading the wrong direction and won't answer the phone when you repeatedly try to contact them? When you are trying to reach your destination with a sense of urgency, these circumstances can be quite frustrating and you may end up having to cancel because of the driver's fault but at your expense. In addition to this injustice, Uber drivers are able to cancel the ride at any point, even after you've been waiting for them and are counting on them as your mode of transportation. These cancelation policy details are unfair, therefore I believe customers should be able to cancel free of charge in the event that they've waited on a driver more than 10 minutes past the expected arrival time or were unable to get in contact with the driver after 2 failed attempts. Not only will this save an amount of money that really adds up, it will save time and frustration in our traveling endeavors.
