Senator Scott: No on Jeff Sessions

We respectfully request that you vote against the confirmation of Jefferson Beauregard Sessions for U.S. Attorney General. You are an African-American man who, this past summer, courageously spoke on the Senate floor about having been frequently stopped by police due to your appearance. Your speech focused on what you called the "deep divide" between communities and law enforcement (http://www.npr.org/2016/07/14/485995136/watch-black-gop-senator-says-hes-been-stopped-7-times-by-police-in-a-year).
Senator Sessions's record and recent statements indicate that he will reverse the police reform programs meant to bridge this "deep divide." Should he be confirmed and follow through, tens of millions of law-abiding African-American citizens will continue to suffer the race-based discrimination of which you spoke. Among the consequences will be that young African Americans will continue to learn to perceive police officers as enemies rather than protectors.
Please do not make the tragic mistake of enabling this personal injustice and resulting harm to our society. Vote no on Jeff Sessions, and urge your Senate colleagues to join you. Thank you.
