Save Grad Ed in the U.S.

The recent GOP tax proposal would devastate graduate students. As written, this bill would increase the tax burden of graduate students while handing out tax breaks to the wealthy. Additionally, many students would end up with a take-home pay well below the federal poverty level. Robbing working students to give handouts to the ultra-wealthy constitutes an assault on both our livelihoods and higher education. We will continue to raise our voices until our demands are met.
We demand that Congress:
Retain the qualified tuition reduction (26 U.S. Code §117)
Preserve the student loan interest deduction at its current levels
Kill any bill that punishes students for pursuing higher education
Pursue policies that preserve equitable access to education and strengthen the financial base of higher education
