Reject Trump's Federal Employees Retirement System Changes

Based on President Trump’s proposed budget, it now seems that the retirement system that was promised to millions of Federal Workers when President Ronald Reagan signed FERS into law over 30 years ago is about to be reneged upon. We have worked our whole careers, paid into FERS and planned our retirements under the assumption that we were NOT being lied to, and now when the very first wave of FERS retirees begin to collect the fruits of our labor, the rules are all about to change. Eliminating the Special FERS Supplement would rule out any kind of retiring before age 62 for most of FERS Federal Workers. In addition, losing our retiree COLA would be devastating. We are expecting very modest retirement annuities beginning around $20,000.00. If that is not indexed for inflation, the future buying power of this money will be greatly diminished over the course of our retirements. As FERS employees, we already accepted a pension that was reduced by half compared to our predecessors under the Civil Service Retirement System, so why are we being asked to sacrifice again? We humbly ask for you to oppose this part of the budget and make good on the promise that was made to all Federal Workers when President Ronald Reagan signed this into law.
