U.S. Senate: Reinstate Assault Weapons Ban and Protect People’s Rights to Safety

US Senators have excluded assault rifle ban from their gun control proposal. Assault weapons like the ones used in Newtown, Connecticut, and Aurora, Colorado will remain unrestricted. Tell Congress this is unacceptable! The people need to be free from fear and gun violence.

Assault rifles are made to kill, they should not be allowed on the streets. America had an assault rifle ban before 2004, in which there was a significant decrease in crimes associated with assault rifles. Some assault rifle proponants may tell you that assault rifles are only involved in a small number of gun violence in America. However recent mass killings such as the ones in Sandy Hooks Elementory School and Aurora, Colorado are made possible because there is no ban on access to assault rifles with removable and large-capacity magazines.

We need to face the fact and fix the problem--reinstate assault rifle bans in gun control legislation and reduce the number of military-style guns on the street. It is obvious that gun control reduces gun-related violence. States like Massachusetts that have stricter gun regulation have fewer gun-related deaths. On the other hand, states with loose gun regulations like Arizona have the top five highest number of gun-related deaths. Assault rifle ban may not eliminate all the gun violence today, but a decrease of 1% in gun-related violance would mean approximately 650 less shootings in America. Banning assault rifles is a significant step towards our safty and freedom from fear.

Tell congress to keep instate assault rifle ban in the gun control legislation and protect the people’s right to live without fear.
