Pass the Paycheck Fairness Act
This petition had 33 supporters
Although the exact amount is often debated, there is a gender pay gap in America-women make anywhere from 77-94 cents to the man's dollar. The Paycheck Fairness Act is aimed at closing that gap, addressing many of the reasons why women are paid less than men. It requires employers to show that differences in pay are based on factors other than sex (like level of education), forbids pay secrecy rules in the workplace (with which employers keep pay differentials quiet by not allowing employees to discuss their salaries), and subsidizes programs that teach women how to negotiate for a higher salary (as research has shown that women do not negotiate as much as men). If this legislation were passed, millions of American women who are losing an average of $10,000 per year due to the gender pay gap will finally make the salary they deserve. Please sign this petition to show the members of the U.S. Congress, and specifically the members of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, that this bill is necessary and wanted by their constituents.
