Matthew Nicholas started this petition to U.S. Senate and

S.2086 RISE From Trauma would allocate funding for professionals from a multitude of departments to educate people on the long lasting effects of trauma. This bill has the potential to expand prevention and treatment options related to addiction, youth and adult crime, as well as provide additional relief for those traumatically afflicted by COVID 19.

Currently, the US is facing a staggering rise in public health issues. From the opioid epidemic to an increase in crime rates in both juveniles and adults. Hospitals have been working through max capacity conditions from the onset of the pandemic. Doctors and nurses alike have worked through traumatic conditions for over a year. We must provide resources to address the underlying cause creating this influx of addiction, crime, and provide an opportunity for relief for our caregivers.

RISE from Trauma will create a relief system for children, families, and communities affected by traumatic events by offering support and establishing a best practices method for addressing these issues. Hospitals will be tasked with conducting research on how to best address trauma, how to identify it early on, and how to mitigate the lasting, negative effects it leaves overtime.

Lastly, our juvenile justice system will become equipped with a trauma coordinating center, which will act as a screening to identify youth who enter the justice system who are afflicted with trauma. This will help reduce recidivism rates, as well as getting traumatized youth the help they need, rather than committing them to a life of crime.
