James Vargas started this petition to U.S. Senate and

Today, our country is at a crossroads in our history that is not just two divergent paths, but many overlapping paths.  It is not only confusing but frustrating for citizens no matter what side of the “aisle” you are on.  We are faced with countless issues and differing of opinions and those opinions even differ on what the issues even are let alone the path to take to find a solution.

The current state of our country has shown us that there needs to be a shift in our approach and attitude if we are to continue to strive as a nation and people.  Looking at this complicated tangle of issues and emotions it would seem to be difficult at best and hopeless at worse as to where to start to untangle.

I feel that the first and maybe most important step that everyone can agree on no matter your political party, belief system or personal opinions is to call on Congress to pass the ONE BILL ONE ITEM approach for legislation.  The current health issue in our country has shown the absolute worse in our elected officials as they can not pass a bill without adding needless amendments, creating endless debates and quite frankly colossal wastes of time, money and energy.  While our elected officials haggle and drag their feet over adding the infamous “pork” to every bill presented, our country falls further behind in helping our people that need it most and getting the work done that needs to be done.  Now.

ONE BILL ONE ITEM is exactly as it sounds.  Each bill that is introduced has one item.  That’s it.  No amendments, no bartering, no pork.  If a bill is introduced to send checks to every American, then that is it.  A simple yes or no.  No wheeling and dealing to send money elsewhere.  If that money is asked for, it is a separate bill.  Simple as that.  ONE BILL ONE ITEM.
