WhyNotUs started this petition to U.S. Senate

Work Opportunity Tax Credit(WOTC) is ending on December 31, 2020. WOTC is a Federal tax credit that is available to employers who hire individuals that have faced obstacles in regards to employment. In order to better support these groups of people, WOTC must be made permanent or at least extended further to support them. These communities include groups such as ex-felons and veterans. However, no measures have been made to ensure that these communities are able to qualify for WOTC in the near future. Just last year the Work Opportunity Tax Credit and Jobs Act was introduced to the Senate in order to make this incentive permanent. However, it is uncertain on how long it will take to pass this act and whether or not it will be passed. As such, we must bring attention to the status of WOTC within this nation.

One may ask, why is WOTC so important? Well, our goals at WhyNotUs are to spread awareness and destigmatize the employment of ex-convicts in the career field. We believe that every individual has the capacity for change, and that everyone deserves to have an opportunity to uplift themselves. Unfortunately, many employers discriminate against those with a criminal record, which gives ex-convicts limited options when it comes earning a living wage. Not to mention, the families that often rely on these individuals for survival. So, we at WhyNotUs advocate for the passing of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit and Jobs Act and the end of unemployment surrounding ex-convicts as a whole.
