Keep Veterans Housed with Civil Legal Aid

Each night, there are tens of thousands of veterans living on the street. One persistent barrier to stable housing for these vets are the sticky civil legal issues that many encounter. Providing civil legal aid can be key to overcoming this barrier.
Civil legal aid means no-cost help with the non-criminal legal issues that aren’t covered by public defender programs. Issues like landlord-tenant disputes over rent, battles with the Veterans Administration for disability compensation, consumer debt – all are civil legal matters.
If these issues go unresolved, they can cause someone to lose a livelihood or a home, and to spiral into homelessness.
To address this need, Senators Richard Burr of North Carolina and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut created The Homeless Veterans Prevention Act of 2017 – bipartisan legislation that includes support for veterans civil legal aid.
The Connecticut Veterans Legal Center started this petition calling on Congress to pass The Homeless Veterans Prevention Act. The legislation would help local organizations across the U.S. – like the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center – provide civil legal aid to veterans facing homelessness.
This is an opportunity to take a moment to show Congress that you care about giving homeless veterans all the help they need.
Please sign this petition calling on Congress to act now. Pass the Homeless Veterans Prevention Act today!
