On March 4, 2020, Mr. Schumer was speaking before abortion-rights activists on the steps of the Supreme Court declares: “I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price.”

Mr. Schumer was referring to Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, the newest Justices who were appointed by President Trump. He further added, “You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”

While his statement is open to interpretations, it is clear that Mr. Schumer is using his position as Senate Minority leader to bully the Supreme Court to vote his way. This kind of rhetoric is uncalled for from a Senator and serves to further divide the country. If we allow this incendiary speech to continue without consequence then other politicians think it is ok to publicly threaten our justices. 

Therefore I urge the U.S. Senate as a body to censure Mr. Schumer for threatening Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh and compromising the independence and impartiality of the Supreme Court.  This must be condemned in the strongest words.
