A memorial day for mariners lost at sea

A memorial day for mariners lost at sea
We have days honoring veterans, saints, laborers, police, firemen, those who have lost their lives to terrorism, and people who have lost their lives at war. Rightly so, I might add. But we don't have a day honoring those who have braved the seas to keep our economy going and have lost the battle. This idea is inspired by this day of creating the petition, which is November 10, the day that the 29 man crew of the Great Lakes freighter Edmund Fitzgerald lost their lives in a ferocious storm on the vast waters of Lake Superior in 1975. Every year on this day, a ceremony is held to honor the crew, and a bell is rang 29 times for each of the men, then a 30th time for all other mariners who have been lost. It is my honest thought that this day should be made an official memorial day to honor all who have been lost on the lakes and oceans. To remember them along with the Fitzgerald's crew, just as the 30th ring is added. These tragedies deserve to be remembered, as they have shaped our history and the world we now live in. Please join me in this effort to create an official Mariner's Memorial Day.
