Petitioning U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun

Take a stand against anti-gay laws during the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Attempting to suppress an athlete's thoughts and opinions about gay rights during the upcoming Winter Olympics only strengthens Russia's attempt to uphold hate-filled, anti-gay "laws".

Keeping in line with the IOC, which suggested that any athletes who express opposition to the law during the Games could face punishment, the U.S. Olympic Committee is taking the easy way out and hiding behind its "non-political, sports organization" status.

President Obama said that while he didn’t support a boycott of the Sochi Winter Olympics, he had “no patience” for homophobic laws and that he was “looking forward to is maybe some gay and lesbian athletes bringing home the gold or silver or bronze.”

It's time to move the world forward, not backwards, when it comes to LGTB rights. The U.S. Olympic Committee led by chief executive Scott Blackmun needs to take a leadership position and support ALL of its athletes.
