Stone of Hope: continue MLK jr.'s original words
Hello, My name is Sophie Sarnacki and this semester in my art and Ethics course we were encouraged to reach out about a piece of public art "monument" that we feel passionate about. During this course I learned that an original quote of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s was shortened to read: "I was a drum major for justice, peace, and righteousness." This was later corrected by completely removing any trace of this quote from the monument. The original quote being "Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter." I personally feel that the removal of this quote is a shame. It's a beautiful sentiment that I believe adds a lot of value, and really shows Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s essence. I was wondering if there was any way to attach this quote to the monument, whether it be physically or in pamphlets. I don't have all the ideas, but I think this quote should be heard and live on. If there is anything you can think of, or any action that can be taken to further continue his beautiful words I feel it should be taken. Help by signing this petition! Together we can let others hear the drum Major.
