There is no reason to display such hateful people in public, much less in such a high position that makes them seem noble

because I believe in true liberty and justice for all. These statues and flags were placed during a time of hatred and racism. They create a society that feels unheard and disrespected. Is that who we are as Americans? Absolutely not.

America: Established to evade persecution

Confederacy: Starts a civil war to persecute people

What is so hard to understand here? It was a treasonous movement and the flags for the war should be illegal themselves.

I am supporting the BLM movement by campaigning to rename Fort Benning in honor of Lieut. Henry Flipper, a black former slave and military hero.

Please support my petition. https://www.change.org/Lieut_Henry_Flipper

I mean I don't think the writer has phrased this the best - these should be taken down not because they're embarrassing for white people but because they show black people that their country doesn't care about them to the extent that they glorify their enslavers. Stop making this about the oppressors; read the room.

These statues were erected by neo-Confederate groups, their only purpose being to honor the Confederacy and it's beliefs and attempt to romanticize their traitorous generals and to call them "heroes".

They were traitors to this country and should have no place here.
