Savannah Miller started this petition to U.S. House of Representatives and

We can only better ourselves as a nation if we make meaningful permanent change. I speak to the people in power, the people who have the abilities to set these rules: what happens when it's your daughter or son? When you get the call, there's been a mass shooting, perhaps at their school, or a public place and what SHOULD have been the light of your life, is dead or traumatized because of your ignorance? Because YOU refused to get justice? To the people in power: you think your idea of help is to tweet meaningful things. Tell that to the mother who is screaming for the lost of her child. Tell that to the girl who lost her brother, friend, or family member.

We need stricter gun laws. It can be important to have a simple hand gun for your own protection, if it is correctly stowed and you have had lessons and own a license. So far, it is August 2019 and we have had more shootings in this country than we HAVE HAD DAYS. 291 shootings and climbing.

Coming from a student, from all students across the country, when will you open your eyes? When will I be more important than a gun? We speak out of fear. We shouldn't have to be scared to go to school and public places. We shouldn't have to always have an escape plan. We need gun laws that make it extremely hard to get a gun, that way malicious people don't slip through the cracks. For those of you thinking that the person is always the problem: machine guns and guns of higher class were made for destruction. They were made to end lives. Not everyone has a mental illness, their heart is filled with hate by our president, who spews racial slurs and tells us all of his xenophobia. This ignites the hate and the need to "fix it". They are people, just the same as you and me. We all have the same blood and bones and anatomy. Whose to say they deserve to die? Surely not you.
