Urge Congress to Support the Recently Introduced Dream Act of 2017 NOW

Following President Trump’s inhumane and cruel repeal of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Congress was forced to act on the matter within 6 months. However, progress has been slow and almost unattainable due to disagreements between and within Democrats and Republicans. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Jeff Flake (R-AZ),and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) introduced a clean and bipartisan Dream Act of 2017. If passed, this bill would provide Dreamers protection from deportation and the opportunity to obtain a conditional permanent resident status. This change, in turn, would potentially allow them to work legally, travel outside the country, continue their contributions to the American economy, and, most importantly, receive an equal chance to achieve their full potential.
To achieve this, they would have to meet certain requirements including:
Be undocumented, a DACA recipient or a TPS beneficiary;
Demonstrate proof of having entered the U.S. before the age of 18 and of having been continuously present in the U.S. for at least 4 years prior to the Dream Act bill’s enactment;
Meet educational requirement through one of the following:
Have been admitted to a college or university, any higher-learning institution, or
Earned a high school diploma or GED;
Have not been convicted of certain criminal offenses;
Pass a medical examination and a background check.
The President is currently not supporting this bill, depriving thousands of American-raised and educated children who know no other home the chance to succeed and contribute to their communities just as their fellow neighbors are. We must put a stop to this and demand Congress to take action by passing the bipartisan Dream Act of 2017 and save hundreds of thousands of hard-working, DACA-documented Americans!
As a legal U.S. resident, I understand the privilege that I have and can only hope for anyone else to have the same opportunity to succeed without fear of being stripped from the only place they’ve ever called home. Join me by signing this petition and demand Congress to pass this clean and necessary piece of legislation now.
