U.S. Congress: Establish non-partisan, scientific commission on mass shootings.
This petition had 63 supporters
In the wake of another tragic mass shooting, we ask the U.S. Congress to create a nonpartisan commission of psychologists, sociologists, behaviorists, economists and historians to evaluate these massacres in the United States of America, and their causes.
No political party, the NRA, or other lobbying organization shall hold a seat, or have any part of (including communication with, prior to the commission presenting its findings and recommended solutions) this commission.
The commission's sole goal should be to determine a comprehensive list of causes of mass shootings, with recommended solutions. But, the goal of this commission is neither to ban, nor to promote firearms.
Since the issues of gun violence, gun control, and individual liberties have become so divisive as to result in constant stalemates and empty condolences, such a commission could be the first step toward finding real solutions.
